Pauli Carman / Champaign Bio
Pauli Carman and Champaign have been a platinum success since their first release "How 'Bout Us". As testament to the band's multi-format appeal, "How 'Bout Us" jumped onto the Billboard's pop and soul charts, soring to number one (1) on the adult contemporary charts. "How 'Bout Us" shot to number one in England and earned a platinum disc certification.
In Holland, Belgium, and Asia, both single and the LP produced two platinum discs. The potent follow-up to the group's debut album "How 'Bout Us" was "Modern Heart," featuring the hit single, "Try Again" co-produced by George Massenburg, best known as engineer for artists as diverse as Earth, Wind and Fire and Little Feat. "Try Again" also climbed to the top of the Billboard charts earning number one status.
With the success of their first two releases, Champaign exploded onto the charts a third time with the release of the hit single "Off and On Love" from the album "Woman in Flames." All of the Champaign hits were preceded by classic music videos reaching top 5 status across the charts on MTV, Vh1, and BET. Champaign has appeared on such hit TV shows as Soul Train, Solid Gold, and American Bandstand, as well as the international music show "Top of the Pop" in England; and has toured in such venues as Madison Square Garden, Cow Palace, The Summit, The Coliseum, The Assembly Hall, Kiel Auditorium, Holiday Star Theater, United Center, Chicago, IL., Sanger Theatre - New Orleans, Epcott Center - Disney World - Orlando, FL, and many others.

Short Chapter Bio:
Pauli Carman began his music career in Illinois as the lead singer of R&B group, Champaign. The pop-funk band assembled in 1981 and took the name of their hometown Champaign, located in Central Illinois. The band’s unique ensemble of talented musicians and vocalists(white instrumentalists front by a black male & black female vocalist) set them apart from most musical groups of its time.
From Small Town To Stardom:
The release of Champaign’s debut album and single How ‘Bout Us, catapulted the R&B/POP group straight to the top of the Billboard Charts in 1981. The single would cross all musical genres and connect with many international music fans at all levels, it continues to win new fans even in 2008. For the next four years, Champaign would successfully release single after single, peaking on the billboard charts in several genres and countries.
When Champaign ended its record contract with CBS, Pauli Carman would go on to achieve some success within his career as a solo artist on the same record label. Mr. Carman scored a big hit on the R&B billboard charts with his single “Dial My Number.” The music video broadcast in heavy rotation on Black Entertainment Television and make its debut on major entertainment news programs and MTV cable network.
In 2011, Pauli Carman is back in the studio working on new material for his album entitled “CHAMPAIGN: THE KIND.” Mr. Carman is gearing up to bring his musical talents back into the limelight for old and new fans. As an experienced music veteran, Pauli Carman & Champaign are aiming to take the global market by storm within a new era of the music business and new distribution platforms that were not available at the dawn of their beginnings.
